Dear Parents and Students:
I am so happy to be on the fourth grade team here at Colina. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and provide you with a little information about my teaching philosophy and what we, as a team, can do to insure a really good year.
I am excited to bring my experience to Colina and your children. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 3rd/4th multi-age, 4th, and 5th grade. Education is important to me, and I continue to challenge myself to keep learning. This philosophy led me to pursue my National Board Certification, which I received eight years ago. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to the children what they have given me – imagination, creativity, enthusiasm, understanding, and respect.
One of my strongest beliefs regarding education is that the teacher-parent-child combination is today’s answer to educational success. Parents who play an active role in their child’s education through encouragement and reinforcement of the school curriculum allow success to become a reality. Working together, as a team, we can make a difference!
With this in mind, I believe that communication is of utmost importance. Every day your child will be communicating with you on what they have accomplished in school. This will be done in the “Agenda Calendar.”. I post daily updates on my classroom webpage. Included is what we are studying that day/week, homework assignments for the night, spelling/vocabulary slide shows, pertinent websites to compliment our units of study, etc. This is your/your child’s best resource to track daily assignments. Please bookmark my website and refer to it to answer questions you may have. You can reach me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 480-541-2747.
Weekly assignments, papers, and other pertinent information will be sent home on a regular basis. Please ask your child for this information and go over it together. An added benefit to parents is the ability to track your child’s progress daily on the Kyrene Parent Portal. It is important that your child get immediate feedback, so I keep my grade book up to date. We will also be using Class Dojo. This is a fun way for students to keep track of homework completion and class behaviors, both positive and areas to work on. As a parent, you will be able to go to the website and view this information on a daily basis. Class Dojo will also send you an e-mail summarizing the week's progress in these areas.
In closing, I see my role as a facilitator in your child’s learning. I believe that all children are active participants in the learning process, and I encourage their exploration and growth. Teamwork within the classroom will be focused upon, creating an atmosphere of respect, sharing, cooperation, group interaction and dynamics, understanding, and fun. If a child can enter a classroom where they feel comfortable, have a sense of belonging and pride, and believe that he/she can do what they set out to do, they then have the main ingredients necessary to succeed. It is my responsibility as a teacher to provide them with this type of environment to ensure happiness and success, not to mention getting them ready to move on in their education as they transition to fifth grade.
