Mr. and Mrs. Dr. V offered the class at Sierra and Estrella elementary schools during the Spring of 2012. The class will return to Estrella and Sierra in the 2012-13 school year.When will the class be offered?
Spring of 2013. Flyers will be going home in early January. The class will begin in early February and run for 10 to 12 weeks, meeting once a week after school from 2:40-3:40.
Who can sign up?
The class is open to all 4th and 5th graders. No experience necessary. Of course, experienced players are welcome; I will make sure to keep you busy and engaged!
How do I sign up?
Once the class has been announced (watch for fliers and emails), you can sign up through Kyrene eServices. Click the Programs tab at the top left, choose "After School Enrichment" in the menu on the left and scroll down to "Beginning Band and Orchestra".
Do I need an instrument?
Yes, you will need to bring an instrument to every class. See below for more information.
What instruments can I choose from?
Any instrument from the wind, brass, or string section of the orchestra. Students interested in percussion will need a bell kit and practice pad or snare drum.
Common instrument choices for beginning students are:
woodwind: flute, clarinet or alto saxophone
brass: trumpet or trombone
strings: violin or ‘cello
percussion: bell kit and practice pad or snare drum
Can I play any other instruments?
Yes. The instruments listed above are popular and readily available for rent or purchase, but any of the following standard orchestral instruments may also be chosen: oboe and bassoon from the woodwind family; French horn and tuba from the brass family; viola, and double bass from the string family.Can I play guitar, drum set or recorder?
No. Only standard orchestral instruments allowed. Sorry.Instrument Rental InformationStudents will need to bring an instrument to every class.
