About The Teacher
Hello Falcons Families!
My name is Ruben Johnson, teacher. I am very honored to be teaching music to your our children at Kyrene del Milenio Elementary School. Music has always been there for the best parts of life and has always helped me through challenges.
No other language is more universal than music, no other subject gracefully crosses disciplines, and no other form of expression articulates emotion as music. Music has taught me how to practice and strive for excellence in any subject matter.
I am proud to say this is my fourth year as a Music Specialist in the Kyrene School District. I work with the best teachers, administrators, parents, grandparents, and especially, STUDENTS in the Cosmos!
I am a graduate of Arizona State University. I am a Highly-Qualified Educator with an HQ Music endorsement. I have been involved performance musical groups since 8th grade and performing many musical genres. I am a member of the Arizona Chapter of the Orff-Schulwerk Association. I use a variety of engagement strategies including the use technology to arrange, compose, record, and just play music.
I have lived in the Valley of the Sun all my life. I am a fourth generation Arizonan. My wife, Alyson and I have two daughters, Emalynn and Brenna, who have attended Kyrene schools and are now studying at Corona del Sol and Northern Arizona University (GO Aztec and Lumberjacks). Our family loves camping and exploring the Arizona outdoors. We love visiting other places in our great south and northwest such as San Francisco CA, Reno NV, Dillon CO, and Coeurd’Alene ID and Kansas City Missouri. We usually spend a few weeks each year at Mingus Mountain, Arizona.
We love entertainment such as movies, concerts, plays, books, audio books, songs, videos, and entertaining each other. My favorite movie characters are usually those played by Johnny Depp, John Travolta, and Donnie Yen. My favorite authors are Cornelia Funke, Jerry Spinelli, Louis Sachar, Sharon Creech, Pam Munoz Ryan, and J.K. Rowling.
I am energized to help students use music quite literally in harmony with their effective learning styles in order to excel as critical thinkers and excellent communicators. I strive to have every student understand the “why” and the “how” of music so that every student can apply music to their core of educational knowledge.
A great byproduct of our music instruction is confidence and consideration for others. We practice compliments and support for each other. Our children are a community of learners and collaborators. Together we can have a successful and enjoyable experience in the music room. I look forward to a strong partnership!
