About Ms. LunnWelcome Akimel A-al students and families. My name is Debbie Lunn and I am so happy to be your 6th grade ELA teacher this year.I am an AZ native and have three wonderful daughters. My oldest Katie is a junior at the University of Arizona, Sydney will be a freshman at Northern Arizona University, and my youngest Audrey is a freshman at Desert Vista High School. My favorite pastimes include yoga, hiking, walking, camping, reading, traveling, and trying new restaurants. I'm not traveling much at the moment of course, but I have high hopes for the future.
My educational background includes a K-8 Bachelors of Arts degree in education from ASU and a Masters of Arts degree from NAU. I also have endorsements in the areas of middle school ELA,reading, and Structured English Immersion (SEI). I also have my real estate certificate from the Arizona State Department, and I have been enjoying buying and selling houses for friends and family. Last but not least, I am a certified yoga teacher and obtained a 200 hour certificate in 2002 to be able to teach yoga to children and adults. Over the past 18 years, I have taught yoga at studios, gyms, child care centers, to sports teams and many other venues. It was an honor to be able to share this passion with my middle school students last year, and I am hopeful yoga will return to Akimel A-al next year.
My goal as an educator is to foster a learning environment of respect and encouragement where all students feel successful and become independent learners. I look at each of my students as individuals and build upon their learning strengths in a highly engaging classroom that is taught from the rigor of CCRS standards. I look forward to a great year!
