    About Mr. Mittel

    Dear Parents and Students,

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, I attended The Cambridge School of Weston for high school and then received my B.A. from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. I later pursued my graduate degree in education at Boston University. In 1991, I moved out to Phoenix and began teaching language arts in the Kyrene School District. This will be my 25th year teaching and my 4th year teaching at Akimel A-al. In addition to teaching language arts, I am active in the theater arts and have directed over 50 main-stage productions.  During the year, I guest direct at Desert Vista High School in their theater program, and also serve as a judge at the Arizona High School Theater Conference as well as Arizona's National Poetry Out Loud competition.

Mission Statement:  To create an interactive and engaging classroom environment which recognizes the strengths of middle school students. Through a lively mix of activities, my classroom will promote active learning where students will become motivated to read and write and have a sense of personal and academic achievement.

Wishing you all a great school year,

    Dave Mittel
