    Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for visiting my web site!  I am looking forward to working with you this year!
I grew up in Columbia, Missouri and earned my undergraduate degree in Spanish Education from the University of Missouri.  After graduation, I taught high school Spanish for two years.  Because there were few native Spanish speakers in the area, my students had limited opportunities to use Spanish.  For this reason, I decided to move to Arizona, where Spanish was spoken in the community.

After being awarded a graduate assistantship at Arizona State University, I moved to Tempe.  While earning my Master of Arts in Spanish, I taught Spanish classes to undergraduates at ASU for three years.  While studying at Arizona State,
I also met my husband, Michael.  We married in 1994, the same year that I began teaching at Pueblo Middle School.  In addition to earning an M.A. in Spanish, I continued to take classes at Arizona State and in 2003 completed a second Masters Degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction).

I love teaching Spanish in Arizona, as students can immediately apply their language skills in our community.  I also enjoy teaching middle school because for many students it is the first time that students are learning another language and they are at an age where they are still willing to take risks.  Moreover, I love the variety of teaching 7th, and 8th graders - especially since I have many students for two of their middle school years and get to see them mature from kids to young adults.
In addition to teaching, one of my favorite activities is traveling.  I have traveled extensively throughout the United States and spent two months backpacking throughout Europe - visiting Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway.  I have also had the opportunity to spend a few months living with a family and studying in Arequipa, Peru.  Mexico and Spain are also among my favorite countries to visit.  During the summer of 2011, 2013 and 2015, my husband and I were able to spend a month in Spanish.  In 2011, we spent time in Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Granada, and Malaga.  In 2013, we rented an apartment in Sevilla for three weeks and also traveled to Cadiz, Cordoba, Malaga, and Madrid.  In 2015, we visited Barcelona, Girona, Figueres and Madrid.  We hope to travel to Spain again next summer!
When I am not traveling, I love watching sports - especially basketball and football.  My favorite teams are Mizzou, the Sun Devils, and the Phoenix Suns.  I also enjoy spending time with friends and swimming.
