In February, your fourth and fifth-grader are participating in the annual Walk On! Challenge, a free health education program offered to all Arizona schools from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.
What it is… The Walk On! Challenge is a school-based healthy living program for fourth- and fifth-graders focused on good nutrition and regular exercise. Students aim for the 5-2-1-0 goal every day: Your child has a calendar at school this is how your student tracks his or her progress meeting the daily goal. Each day students will mark their calendar in class to answer the four questions below.
5 – Eat five fruits and vegetables every day
2 – Limit screen time (TV, video games, computers) to two hours or less per day
1 – Get at least one hour of physical activity each day
0 – Avoid sweetened drinks, filling up on water instead
Why it matters to your child… Building healthy habits will give your child the strength and energy they need to stay fit and active, whether you are rounding the bases for a winning home run, dancing to your favorite song, or studying for a big test. Walk On! Will show them how easy it is to make healthy food choices and work a healthy dose of exercise into your life every day.
