    About Ms. Lamkingreen line
    Dear Parents and Students,

Hello, I would like to take a moment to tell a little bit about myself. I grew up in Illinois, my early childhood on the south side of Chicago (Go White Sox!), in the Bridgeport neighborhood, then later my family moved to a farm in N. Central Illinois. I attended elementary, middle and high school in my hometown of Mendota, IL but spent every summer in Chicago. I traveled during the summers of my early teaching years and worked in Wyoming on a ranch taking teens camping/backpacking in the Tetons for two weeks at a time.  I used to manage a golf course, and at one time ran my own business.  For fun, on seven different occasions over the years I have participated in RAGBRAI, a 500 mile bike ride across Iowa. Later on, I became tired of the cold winters in Illinois so I traveled to Australia where I spent a year before coming back to the states. I decided to try out the Southwest and have lived here, in AZ for eighteen years.

I have been a classroom teacher of Language Arts and Reading for over 20 years. I have taught all grade levels, K-12, however; really enjoy teaching “in the middle.” I earned a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education from Illinois State University with an emphasis in Social Studies, English and Literature. In 2000 I committed myself to a year of insanity by accepting the challenge of completing a Masters Degree and National Board Certification…in one year! I was successful in my pursuits and earned a master of Curriculum and Instruction and am an NBPTS in Early Adolescent and Young Adult Language Arts. I am a member of Arizona English Teachers Association, National Middle School Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. I have also worked with authors, Pam Houston, Dorothy Allison, James Frey, Barbara Robinette Moss and Nick Flynn. With their guidance I hope to be published in the near future. I have worked with the Arizona Department of Education as a participant of the Solutions Team, a team of teachers working with under performing schools, and Re-certification Task Force, teams of professors and teachers creating the criteria for re-certification of teachers in AZ. I have participated in the Greater Phoenix Writing Project, an affiliate of the National Writing Project. I also teach English Composition 101, 102, Creative Writing and ESL classes at Chandler Gilbert Community College.

I am a former certified trainer in a variety of areas: Writer’s/Reader’s Workshop, Writing and Revision, Six Traits, Cooperative Learning, Differentiated and Gifted, Love and Logic Respect Centered Discipline, Ethics in Classrooms, RtI, and Cognitive Coaching. I weave the writing/reading curriculum with the six-trait assessment through a variety of innovative and creative activities.

In addition, I am a National Consultant for Houghton Mifflin Textbooks/Great Source Write Traits Division and have trained thousands of teachers all over the US in six-trait writing, revision and poetry. I am a strong believer in laughing across the curriculum and utilize humor as an educational tool in my classroom.

When I am not busy teaching and presenting I ride my bicycle, kayak, camp, or hike among the many mountain trails and water ways near my home in Chandler, Arizona.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Billie Lamkin
