About The Teacher
Dear Families,I am so thrilled to be at Mirada for the 2020-2021 school year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your second grade child this year. This is a milestone year for your child. He/she will have many new learning adventures in second grade. Your child will become a strong reader and writer, and find new ways to work with numbers and become an even better mathematician. This is a very exciting time for all of us!I would like to start by telling you about myself. I was raised in Dubuque, Iowa, where I graduated from Loras College with a BA in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career in Lakeville, Minnesota where I taught grades 3, 4 and 5 for four years. In 1994, I married my husband, Brian, and we moved to Arizona. This is my 27th year teaching in the Kyrene School District ,and my 31st year of teaching. In 1997, I received my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I have three sons. Riley is 22 , and is a student at Chandler/Gilbert Community College. Bruce is 12, and is a Senior at Corona del Sol. Luke is 16 and is a Junior at Corona. I LOVE Mirada, and I am very excited to be teaching second grade at such an AMAZING school. My hope for this year is for each and every child to grow to his and her full potential, both academically and personally, through group and individual learning and exploration. I believe that it is my job to provide a safe environment where your child can feel confident having new learning experiences without failure. I also believe that it is my responsibility, in partnership with you, to help your child take responsibility for his/her learning, and to become a caring, compassionate community member. This is where I ask for your help! It is very important for you to participate in your child’s learning during second grade. I invite your ideas, assistance, and involvement both in and out of school. The most important thing that you can do with your child is READ with them each night. This year, your child will make many growths to become a more fluent reader, and reading with them will help this process very much. I also ask that you practice the skills that we are learning in school with your child. It is very important for your child to become fluent in their addition and subtraction facts to prepare them for third grade. In order for your child to learn these facts, they must practice them at home. You are welcome to join us in the classroom anytime, although, I do ask that you pre-arrange a time so that we can make sure that your visit will be beneficial to the children as well as you. I really appreciate your interest your child’s learning because it gives him/her a greater chance at achieving all of his/her goals.Your child is very important to me, and I look forward to working with you and your child to make sure that this is the best year ever!
