High Expectations For All
Akimel A-al opened in 1992, the school's name is from the language of the Akimel O'odham (Pima) People and means "Children of the River." It is pronounced "Ah' key mahl." The name was chosen to honor the Akimel O'odham people.
We received word last week from the Arizona Education Foundation that we have earned the A+ School of Excellence Award for 2014. Applicant schools are evaluated in the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement and assessment data.

The Arizona State Board of Education (SBE) approved cut scores and other measures for the A-F letter grade accountability system. SBE provided a guidance document that offers information to schools about the categories of posting and next steps for the issuance of final letter grades in Spring 2018.
