    About The Teacher
    purple line

Hello, my name is Dave Leonard.

I grew up in Minnesota and moved to Arizona in 1998 to attend Arizona State University. I graduated with a Business Finance degree in May 2002 and spent a couple of years in sales management. I soon realized my passion was teaching, which both of my parents had rewarding careers in. I went back to school at Arizona State, completed my student teaching, and Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I was hired by Kyrene in 2005.

This will mark the beginning of my 16th year of teaching in the Kyrene School District. This will be my second year teaching 7th and 8th grade math at Centennial. I spent the previous 14 years teaching fifth grade at Kyrene de las Lomas. In the summer, I serve as Principal for the Kyrene Summer Academy.

Math has always been my passion both as a teacher, private tutor, and a learner. I became Highly Qualified in Middle Grades Mathematics in February 2019 and was hired at Kyrene Centennial in May 2019.

My family in Arizona consists of my wife, Faith, and my son, Grant. Faith (a former teacher) is an event planner and Grant will be a first grader at Kyrene del Milenio this year. My parents and my brother Mike still live back in Minnesota.  In my spare time I enjoy watching sports (especially my Minnesota Vikings and Arizona State Sun Devils!), hiking and playing golf.
