Pueblo Middle School LAST UPDATED: October 3, 2008
"No other age level is of more importance to the future of individuals, and, literally, to that of society; because these are the years when youngsters crystallize their beliefs about themselves and firm up their self-concepts, their philosophies of life and their values - the things that are the ultimate determinants of their behaviors." Understanding
and Appreciating the Wonder Years
''It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.'' - Albert Einstein

Mr. Segerson's Professional "MISSION" Because mathematics is made by human beings and exists only in their minds, it must be made or “remade” in the mind of each child who learns it. In a sense, mathematics can only be taught by being created. It is not a question as to whether a child understands something; the question is how they understand. Therefore, my mission as a math teacher is not to “cover material’, but to uncover a child’s understanding of numerical concepts. A true math student contemplates the numbers and the mysteries of their connections and relationships. In doing so, one learns to use mathematics to benefit both themselves and others. ....and have a ton of fun doing it! :-) |
