Dear Families,
Welcome to my first grade class! My name is Su Rogers and I have been a teacher at Cerritos for the past 11 years. I have experience teaching kindergarten through 4th grade and am excited to be in my third year as a 1st grade teacher. I have my bachelor's degree from Smith College and my Master's from NAU. Two years ago I achieved National Board Teacher Certification through a rigorous process of self study and reflection on my teaching practices. I believe in setting high standards and working hard to achieve them.
This summer I traveled to Missouri to visit my parents and took a family trip to beautiful Lake Tahoe. I love to travel and spend time with my family. My daughter, Delaney, attended Cerritos throughout her elementary years and is now an 8th grade student at Altadena Middle School. She is often a helper in my classroom in the mornings and afternoons. When I am not traveling, I enjoy reading, photography, painting, and swimming.
The first grade year is a critical time with an unbelievable amount of growth to expect from your child. This year will be filled with surprises for both you and your child as they publish stories from Writing Workshop, set and achieve personal reading goals in Reading Workshop, and master the key concepts of mathematical functions through games and explorations in Math. Science and Social Studies play key roles in setting the themes and focuses as we travel through this wonderful year.
I believe that communication is the key to your child's success and will do my best to keep you aware of all that is going on in our class and with your child. I would ask that you contact me at any time with any questions or comments you have regarding your child. You can reach me at (480)783-1255 or by email at sroger@kyrene.org
Welcome to 1st grade!
Su Rogers
