Teacher Information

     Hi! My name is Sandra Molstad. This is my 26th year of teaching in the Kyrene School District.  I have taught sixth grade for six years at Waggoner Elementary and at Kyrene Middle School. I have taught third and fourth grade for one year each at Mariposa.  I have taught fifth grade at Mariposa for nineteen years at Mariposa.

     I am married to Craig Molstad and I have two children.  Ashley is 16 years old and attends Corona High School. Brooke will be eight in September and she is in second grade at Mariposa.

    I am originally from Iowa but I have lived in Arizona for 36 years.

     I love teaching, reading, learning, hiking , shopping, and spending quality time with family and friends!

     I hope we can work together as a team to help your child be a successful learner in fifth grade!

Class Information/Special Events

We have a monthly auction at the end of every month on the last Friday.

The students get to spend their money from their bank accounts!

They get paid for doing their work and they pay me if they don't complete their assignment!

Donations are greatly appreciated!

    About Our Class

We develop learning and behavioral goals each nine weeks.  We expect the best from others and they can expect the best from us; whatever it takes!

Each student will have their own check books with a check register. They will deposit in their accounts if their work is completed and they will have to write me a check it their work is not completed and stay in for their lunch recess. They learn to add and subtract decimals and how to save their money for their auction which is held the end of every month!

I do a Honor Roll System and I do hand out certificates for good grades, lunch in the room with me and bonuses in their bank accounts!

We have class meetings on a weekly basis to solve any problems or concerns students have.  We focus on Mariposa's Life Skills and Lifelong Guidelines to make our learning environment feel safe and secure.

Class Schedule

Language Arts - MTThF -8:00-9:30. Wed.-9:05-10:20.

Math- MTThF -11:05-12:25

Wednesday's-8:00-9:00.

Lunch Recess:10:20-10:40

Lunch: 10:40-11:00

Social Sciences - Daily scheduled times between 12:30-1:30.

Music: Monday and Thursday 1:30-2:00 Thursday.

PE:Tuesday and Friday-2:05-2:35.

Art-Friday-9:40-10:20

Library-Thursday-2:15-2:35

Computer Lab:-Wed.-11:05-11:35.

Buddies:Tuesday.-2:05-2:35

Homework

Spelling and Vocabulary tests are given on Friday's. Lists come home on Monday's. Vocabulary is five words on blue paper.

HOMEWORK REQUIREMENTS:

Math - Homework is assigned Mon. - Thurs.   Work usually consists of practice of daily objectives using text, worksheets or workbook.  Time is often given in class to begin this work.

Assignments given in other areas as needed.

Please check your child's agenda daily to stay current on assignments and upcoming tests.

Fifth grade homework is about 45-60 minutes per night and this includes reading at home for 15 minutes per night and their yellow bookmark goes home on Monday's and returned the next Monday.

Progress Folders will come home every Friday with a detailed report on how your child performed that week academically and behaviorally. I also include reminders and comments.  The folder will need to be signed and returned on Monday's with your child's best piece of quality work.
