How can we teach children with such different needs?
Students learn in a variety of
Groupings are based on the type of skills and the skill level of the student.
Some skills are "naturally" sequential…mastery of some skills is needed before the next learning step can happen. These often occur in student skill groupings as in reading and math.
Non-sequential Thematic Learning
Activities in Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, etc. have traditionally been taught based upon textbook company design.
For example: There is nothing special about learning about weather in 2nd grade. It’s just where textbook companies put it and so that’s where it has stayed.
We have "reorganized" the 3 years of these subject areas focused around certain, highly-motivating themes.
Objectives for all three grade levels are contained in these thematic units.
We are actively updating these thematic units based upon changes to the curriculum from both the State and District level.
Combination of Sequential and Non-sequential Learning
Language (including Spelling)
Combination of skill groups, theme groups same-age peer groups and projects depending on targeted objective
These activities integrate into multiple subject areas, such as writing, math, etc.
