Mrs. Mahlerwein's 1st Grade News

What's Going on at Waggoner?

Hat Day is this Friday! Show your school spirit, and wear your favorite (school appropriate, of course!) hat on Friday, November 21st. You are even allowed to wear them inside!

TURKEY TROT! The 25th Annual Turkey Trot is next Wednesday, November 26th. First Grade warms up at 9:55 (we'll probably head outside at about 9:45 or 9:50), then we trot at 10:00. Our BBQ lunch is immediately following the trot at about 10:20. If you are planning on staying to eat with your child, please make sure to return the form so we can get a rough estimate of the number of people eating with us. Any family and friends who want to come share in the celebrations and exercise are more than welcome!

Student Council is sponsoring a Toy Drive! Our kick-off event will be at the Turkey Trot, and you can continue to bring in donations through December 5th. Please send in any NEW, UNWRAPPED GIFTS that you are willing to donate. Thanks for your support!

Waggoner is recycling shopping bags again! Wal-Mart sponsors a program where schools receive money for shopping bags brought in to be recycled. All money collected will go into the PTO general funds. Send or bring in your plastic bags to help earn money for Waggoner!

What's Going on in First Grade?

There will be NO HOMEWORK next week! The short holiday week is a free, fun week to enjoy your family time. Try to keep reading this week!

***Please make sure that you are doing your best to help your child get to school on time. Learning begins at 7:40a.m., and if your child is late they are missing priceless instruction time. Thanks! ***

I will not be at school on Friday, November 21st. My little sister is getting married on Saturday, and I am taking the day off to help her and spend time with all of my family. Miss Crawford will be here with a guest teacher, so your children are in fantastic hands! Please send any communications that day to school via note in your child's folder or call the front office so they can be sure to get Miss Crawford the message. Thanks for your help!

From Miss Crawford

We are continuing our trip around the world! Now that our kiddos have made their very own passports, packed their suitcases, we are ready to take another trip!   We were in North America and  learned about our place in the world; the continents and oceans in relation to us.  Then, as a class we took our first trip to Mexico, then, Canada.  We learned about their flag, population, culture, and clothing. Now we are getting ready to fly to Australia!  If you have anything to share or bring in  for our trip to Australia  we would love it!  Please feel free to send an e-mail to Mrs. Mahlerwein, thank you!

In science, we began to learn about Cycles! As a class we read," What Is a Cycle."  Then, we discussed the different cycles all around us, our morning, and nightly routines, the morning and afternoon routines at school each day, and the cycles in our environment!  We will be focusing on the Moon, and the Sun cycle which we will relate to the seasons and the weather.

THANK YOU

I can't thank the  Zoo Field Trip Chaperones enough for their help! It was a great day with friends, fresh air, and fun thanks to Rebecca Jimenez, Nia Amazeen, Noriko Masuyama, and Jim Kenehan. Thanks SO much! You are all fantastic!
