Phantom Tollbooth Project List
Required: All students are required to read the book, participate in class discussions, and complete the assigned quizzes along the way.
C Level: Choose any of the assignments below for a total of 35 - 40 points. Full credit will be given for work that shows good effort and creativity. Work that is incomplete, full of errors, sloppy, or not your personal best will not receive full credit. This level must be complete before moving on to the next level.
__________ Vocabulary Charades- choose 10 vocabulary words that are new, write down the word and a
sentence of how you will act it out, act it out for the class and have them try to guess the words (10 pts)
__________Choose 5 idioms from the book and draw each with a detailed illustration (15 pts)
__________ choose 10 vocabulary words that are new- write them in sentences with context clues so the reader
is able to determine the meaning of the words (15 pts)
__________Create a table in Microsoft Excel with the headings: character, place met, & lesson learned- fill it in for at least 15
characters (10pts)
__________Design a code which can be used to send secret messages- create a message and give it to the class to solve(10pts)
__________Make a memory game by drawing 2 pictures of each character on index cards (15-20 characters- so 30 -40 cards total)
bring to class for us to play (10 pts)
__________Complete the “Phantom Tollbooth Book Report” sheet (15 pts)
__________Create a word search with 10 new vocabulary words (5 pts)
__________Draw a map of all of the places listed in the book. Use context clues to figure out how far and in
what direction the places are from each other (15 pts)
B Level: Choose one of the following. Full credit will be given for work that shows good effort and creativity. Work that is incomplete, full of errors, sloppy, or not your personal best will not receive full credit. This level must be complete before moving on to the next level.
__________Create a travel brochure for Digitopolis and Dictionapolis. Be sure to include: places to see, things to do, how to get there,
what to bring, how to get around, and what to avoid(15 pts)
__________Write a play starring 2-3 characters in the book- film it or perform it live- may work with classmates (15 pts)
__________Create a 3D map showing Milo’s journey and different places he visited. Label it clearly with at least the following
places: Expectations, The Doldrums, Dictionoplois, Old City of Wisdom, Forest of Sight, Valley of Sound, Conclusions,
Digitopolis, Sea of Knowledge, Castle in the Air, & Mountains of Ignorance. (15 pts)

___________Write the next chapter of the book. Make sure what happens in the next chapter is based upon what has happened and specific character traits—it uses similar language and it makes sense. (20 pts)
___________Write a 1 + paper on the message/moral of the story. Make sure to state the main message/moral and include specific examples from the story and discuss how they support your main message. (20 pts)
__________Design and construct a parade float based upon the events and characters of the book (20 pts)
