About Mrs. Callahan

My name is Mari Callahan and I teach first grade at Nino's Elementary.  Originally, I'm from California where I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Elementary Education.  Later, I received my elementary education credential from Arizona State University.  Currently, I am pursuing my M.Ed at ASU.  I am very excited to be teaching third grade.

As a teacher, I truly value the importance of teacher/parent communication and appreciate your support.  I hope that this website will provide you with useful information throughout the year.  I will maintain this site weekly so that you are aware of what is happening in our classroom.  Please stay tuned!

Our Class

We have a wonderful class of twenty five third graders.  There are 16 boys and 9 girls.   We have a lot of different personalities in our class which makes for a diverse and fun environment conducive to learning.  We are looking forward to learning and growing in many different ways as the year goes on!

Homework

Homework is sent home every night.  On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will have Language Arts homework.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will have Math homework.  Students will also get a list of spelling words on Mondays to practice during the week.  They will be assessed on Fridays, so be sure to practice throughout the week.  Students are expected to complete their homework every night.  Any incomplete homework will result in missed recess the following day.  No excuses!!!

Students are also asked to read for 15 minutes each night.  They can read independently, read to a parent, parent reads to their child, or read together.  Students can read the book that is sent home with them from their Reading Group or a book of choice.
