Every year a number of students become ill because of exposure to other children in the classroom.  To help you make decisions about whether or not to send your child to school, we have put together the following list of indicators.  If your child displays any of these symptoms, it is important to keep your child at home.  If the symptoms persist, you may choose to contact your doctor.
bullet Fever over 100.5 degrees:  A child should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.  The health assistant may send your child home for symptoms disrupting the learning process in the classroom, even without the presence of a 100.5 or greater fever.
bullet Persistent cough.
bullet Sore throat with fever and/or white spots on the throat.
bullet Rash with fever illness, such as chicken pox, measles, etc.
bullet Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
bullet Red, itchy and draining eyes:  If conjunctivitis or “pink eye” is diagnosed, the child must be on medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
bullet Prolonged headache or stomachache.
bullet Swelling or pain at a level that may interfere with learning.
bullet Earache.
bullet Toothache.
bullet Head lice:  A child must remain at home until treated with medicated lice shampoo and all the nits are removed.  Please notify the school health office.

Feel free to contact the school health office with any questions.  Thank you.

bullet Hydrate:  Please remind your children to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

bullet Clothes Donation: The Health Office is in need of gently used shoes for girls and boys, of various sizes.  Flip-flop type sandals tend to be a source of injury on the playground and break easily; sandals with a heel strap or tennis shoes are recommended for school.  Also, belts, sometimes a safety pin just isn't enough.

bullet If your child requires another set of clothes while at school, please launder the replacement items and return them to the Health Office.

bullet If your child requires medication during the school day, please bring it to the health office and complete a medication card.  The following outlines our district policy regarding medication:  All medications should be brought to the health office and picked up from the health office by an adult. Students should not carry medications to and from school. Up to a 30-day supply will be accepted. Prescription medication must be in its original prescription container and labeled by the pharmacist. Over-the-counter medication must be in the original factory container with all warnings and directions intact.  Many pharmacies provide home and school medication containers when requested. No medications in envelopes, foil, or baggies will be accepted.
