About Ms. Canonico

This is my fourth year at Waggoner Elementary and I love being here! I grew up in Alliance, OH but have lived in Arizona for over 10 years. Some of my hobbies are hiking, photography, biking and reading.

Our Class

We have a wonderfully diverse class of boys and girls with different interests and strengths. Our students love to work together and get excited about games like Around the World, Last Man Standing, Speed and Sparkle.

Homework

Every week we have spelling homework. A packet is sent home on Monday and due Friday. The spelling test is given on Friday and a surprise bonus words is also on the test. We study for spelling all week with games like Sparkle and Spelling Bee.

We usually have math homework about 3 days a week. The math homework will usually consist of a re-teaching side and a problem solving side. These homeworks are practice but can also be used to help study for the chapter test.

We have a reading calendar that the students are expected to fill our every nights. We all read at least 15 minutes a night and fill in that square on the calendar. Parents then sign the back of the calendar. If the student meets the monthly goal set at the beginning of the month, they will receive a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut, thanks to the Book It program. We will start this in October.

Fourth grade social studies focuses on Arizona and states. We also work a lot on map skills including latitude and longitude, time zones and continents. In the fall we mostly concentrate on Arizona. We learn about our state along with the rich Native American culture.
