Scholastic News: Winter
Olympics
http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/winterolympics/index.asp
Even though there were several Olympic sites on the
last list of sites, this site is the most appropriate that I found for
kids. The site is a
partnership of the International Olympic Committee, NBC, and
Scholastic Corp. On the left-hand side, you will even find a link
specifically for Teachers that leads to some great lesson plans! The
site will be up-dated daily!
Kids’ Portrait: George
Washington
http://www.georgewashington.si.edu/kids/portrait.html
Julie Fischer found this fabulous site!
As we approach Presidents’ Day, you might want to let you
students visit this site that is from the Smithsonian National
Gallery. Following clues
and by simply moving the mouse and clicking…students uncover parts
of the portrait. When
they finish, the portrait will be complete, and students will remember
the details for years to come!
Activities and Crafts for Presidents Day (Enchanted Learning)
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/presidentsday/
Following the
typical format of the Enchanted Learning site…here you will find all
kinds of crafts, activities, and even printable activity sheets. These
crafts projects are for preschool, kindergarten and elementary school
children. The crafts use materials found around the house, like egg
cartons, cardboard, paper, boxes, string, crayons, paint, glue, etc.
