Your child's art education begins with the basic literacy of visual art. Line, shape, color, value, space, and form are the language of art. As children participate in hands-on art opportunities, they learn how an artist works. Exposure to art history, aesthetics, and art criticism, coupled with studio sessions broadens students' appreciation of art and the role in plays in the human experience. Mariposa art education is for all students, not just those who demonstrate an ability in art. The curriculum is age level appropriate and sequential to reflect children's development. Our Kyrene Visual Arts Curriculum is based on the National Visual Arts Standards and is integrated within our other content areas. All students maintain a visual art journal. These journals are kept for reflections, note taking, and thumbnail drawing. When Mariposa students arrive to class, they know they are entering an art studio. Students will learn about famous artists, working artists, tools, techniques and processes, as well as opportunities for creative expression. Painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, and found object art are just a few examples of art your child will experience in the studio. Art sessions meet for forty minutes, once a week. Student artwork will be saved in portfolios for our year-end art showcase. Our library also displays student art year-round. Our website will be updated quarterly. Please check back for new projects!
