Team 7C Welcome Letter

          We hope everyone had a great summer.  To help you understand our classes, the teachers have put together this information sheet.  Please take this home and discuss the rules and procedures with your parent/guardian.  Return the bottom portion of the last page with your signature and a parent’s signature.

Supplies List: for use in all classes

• Spiral Notebooks:  for taking notes, and doing homework. 4: one required in each class to start.
• Loose leaf paper: wide ruled supply for the year.
• Folders: to organize papers
• Pencils
• Highlighters and colored pencils/crayons
• Red Pen: for correcting homework.
• Independent Reading Book(s)
• Optional:  ruler, protractor, small inexpensive calculator, dry erase marker. (Calculators will not normally be used in math class)

Social Studies: Mrs. Anderson

Your Social Studies grade is calculated in the following manner:

Tests: 50%

Other Assessments (quizzes, projects, writing assignments): 15%        

Class work: 25%                

Homework: 10%

• Homework in social studies usually consists of studying for the test or quiz, getting a test signed, or completing a project.
• It should not take more than 20 minutes most nights.

Studying consists of vocabulary review (students should make flashcards, using the interactive reviews with their on-line book, and turning the statements in their notes into questions). It is NOT just reading over the notes

Science: Mr. Cartan

Your Science grade is calculated in the following manner:

Tests: 50%

Class work (includes labs): 25%

Other Assessments (quizzes, projects): 15%   

Homework: 10%     

Language Arts/Advanced Language Arts: Miss Spencer

Your Language Arts grade is calculated in the following manner:

Homework/class work   30%

Tests/quizzes                    50%

Other assessments (major projects/writing assignments) 20%

·        Students should be prepared for a spelling/vocabulary quiz on alternating Thursdays.

·        Homework assignments and due dates will be on the weekly agenda.

Math Mr. Wallin: for both 7^th grade math and Pre Algebra

7^th Grade Math: Your grade is calculated in the following manner:

Tests                                       50%

Homework/quiz                      50%

Pre-Algebra: Your grade is calculated in the following manner.

Tests                                       50%

Quizzes                                   20%

Homework                              30%

• Homework will be assigned almost every night, & possibly weekends. Not my first choice.
• On most days, students will have time to start their homework in class. Math homework should not take longer than 30 minutes to complete.
• Any assignment that is not done in pencil, or does not show the required work will be returned for proper completion. 
• Workbook: all students will be provided with a workbook & are required to bring it every day. 

Tests:

• Tests will typically be given at the end of a content unit. See weekly agenda for additional test dates and information.
• Students will be given up to a one week notice of an upcoming test. 
• There are no retake tests or quizzes. 
• Study sessions may be held at lunch a day or two before the test (teacher discretion).
• If a student is absent on the day of a test, they will be expected to take the make-up the day they return in Academic Lab. (Or at a time considered reasonable by the teacher).
• All graded tests will be sent home for parent/guardian signature and counted as a homework grade.

Homework:

• If you can’t get the assignment finished, a parent should write a note, call, or e-mail the teacher to inform what happened.   Homework will not be considered late if the student completes the homework in the extra time given.
• All homework is due at the beginning of class.  This means it is completed before you walk in the room.  If your homework is not finished, it is considered late.  If you turn in an assignment late, the highest grade you can receive is 70%.  If the paper is never handed in, that assignment will receive a 0%

Make-up Work:

·        If you are absent you are responsible for getting the assignment. 

·        At home you can find the assignment on your “Week-at-a-Glance” (WAG), your agenda, the teacher’s website, or a classmate.  

·        Check the teacher’s designated absence folders for handouts.

·        Students are responsible for getting the notes and assistance on the assignment. 

·        The amount of time to complete the work will depend on the length of the absence.  Please write absent on the top of the paper.  Assignments will not be accepted one week after assignment is due.

Cheating:

• Anyone caught cheating will get a zero on the assignment. 
• If a student is copying off someone else’s paper both students will receive a zero.  Also, parents will be contacted.
• If caught cheating on a test, the test will be taken away, and another alternative test will be given.  Parents will also be notified.

Information:

• WAG will be emailed home every week (hard copies to people without internet access) showing the assignments for the week in all classes.
• Check our websites linked on the Akimel-A-al school homepage. District technology will be updated during the first quarter. Parents will be notified about grades on line and other important changes as they become available.
