Math The new skill the students were introduced to was fractions. They will be learning about ½’s, 1/3’s, and ¼’s. They will be able to identify the fraction, verbally tell what fraction is shaded and shade a fraction correctly. They will have whole group work, guided practice and game time when working with fractions. Please continue practicing the basic addition and subtraction facts with your child at home. The students will begin learning double digit addition and subtraction this week too! This skill will be much easier for your child if he/she has a good understanding of his/her basic facts. If your child is struggling with the basic facts double digit will be quite difficult.

Center Time As many of the parents may have noticed last Friday, your child had homework for the weekend. Many students did not do the work over the weekend. They have been missing recess until it is done and turned in. The work that was stapled to the newsletter was work that was incomplete from center time. The time for work completion has not changed since the beginning of the year. The kids have been playing around, talking out, and just day dreaming instead of working. If their work is not finished again this week they will have work to complete over the weekend again. Please encourage your child to complete the work on time. Student Led Conferences The student led conference information form went home on Monday. We will be having conferences on March 6th. The report cards do not go home until after Spring Break. The conference will be a student led conference. The kids need to come with you, because they will be leading the parents in the celebration of the learning. The conference time window is from 4:30-7:30. Your child will have 20-25 minutes to share his/her work following an agenda. There will be treats available after your child completes their task. Please watch for more information to come about the students led conferences.
We will be sharing Valentine’s on Valentine’s Day. Feel free to send in snacks for the day. There are 18 students in our class. We will have a small celebration with Mr. Crane’s class after lunch. Below is a class list for the kids to write on their Valentine’s. We will be passing these out next week.
