You must attend at least four of the meetings. They are held about once a month on Wednesdays at the beginning of lunch. Bring your lunch! You must also uphold high standards of behavior and maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0 .

NJHS Community Service

Examples of community service:

In School (at least 2 different things)

Tutoring in Spanish or Math (talk to your teachers)

Assisting teachers in filing or grading papers

Collecting trash around campus (talk to Mr. Reisinger or Mr. Altobello)

Work with the Green Club

Help Mrs. Oram in the library

Help Mrs. Samaniego in the office

Out of School (at least 2 different things)

Working at an elementary school fair or carnival

Collecting food for a food bank (1 can = 1 minute) (not during the food drive)

Working at a food bank or soup kitchen

Assisting a religious institution with small children

Working for Habitat for Humanity or similar organization

Working at the public library

Assisting Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts or similar organization in community project

Fund raising for Race for the Cure or something similar

Note: Second Year students only may earn up to FIVE hours of community service during the summer.

What is not community service?

Babysitting or yardwork or housework for an individual, even with no pay

Anything for which you receive payment or you gain benefit (other than a T-shirt or lunch)

You may do other things as well. If in doubt, ask one of the advisors!
