Who is Mrs. Worrell?

An Introduction:

Having come from a long line of teachers (both her grandmothers were teachers as were two great-grand-mothers, several great aunts, and her mother), one might say teaching came naturally to Mrs. Worrell.  Her first pupil however, her unwilling two year old brother whose head she pushed into a book and demanded he “READ!!!” might beg to differ.  Over the years  her teaching style and methods have softened somewhat, but her zeal for all students to achieve nothing less than their absolute best has remained steadfast.
Mrs. Worrell grew up in a small water front community on the south shore of LI and attended her town’s public schools through ninth grade.  Finally deciding to follow  in her family's tradition, she attended Northfield Mt. Hermon, a private boarding school in northwestern Massachusetts.  After graduating from NMH, Mrs. Worrell attended college in North Carolina, but ended up graduating  from  Northeastern University  in Boston after being inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an educational honor society and earning a  Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Reading.  After graduating, she was hired by the very district she had attended as a student and even got to teach with several of her former teachers!
Over the course of the next six years, she attained tenure and her Master’s Degree from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY while teaching grades 2,3, &4.  It was during this time that she married and had her first child, Lucas (Luc– currently a 5th grader in Mrs. Shane’s class).  After spending a year and a half at home with Luc, she returned to the classroom where she split her time between fifth and sixth grades.  Her last assignment afforded her the unique opportunity to “loop” with her students: an experience she labels “phenomenal” and “incredibly rewarding”.
After moving to “Phirey” Phoenix in August of 2000, Mrs. Worrell decided to stay home with Luc and help out in his classroom.  She planned to return to teaching in 2001, but the birth of her daughter Hannah changed that plan.  Luckily in 2002, a position opened up at Sierra and Mrs. Worrell was offered her current job of teaching fifth grade.  This year marks Mrs. Worrell’s 16th year of teaching which she is excited about!!!

Other Info.

In her “spare time”, Mrs. Worrell loves creating scrap-photo albums-(currently she’s about two years behind on both children).  She also enjoys exercising, baking, and watching her son play hockey and her daughter “do” gymnastics.   She can often be seen sipping a “cino” (or in non-Hannah lingo a Venti Mocha Frappaccino light double blended with whipped cream) when the weather is warm.   On cooler days, a large mug of Irish Breakfast tea and a blueberry scone hit the spot because they remind her of time spent at her parents’ home on the coast of Maine rocking on the front porch supervising the tides.
