for the week ending August 31, 2007
THANK YOU for your continued generosity! I appreciate the donations for Time for Kids magazine and for snacks.
Special Note: PLEASE complete and send in any paperwork you received during Meet the Teacher Night or Curriculum Night (or that I sent home in your child’s orange folder if you missed these occasions).
In the classroom –
· Volunteers … I will be preparing my volunteer calendar this week, and will send home information on dates to those of you who could volunteer t o help.
This week we will finish up our work in on general number sense concepts, including rounding and making change. It is important to have a firm grasp on those concepts before moving on. Our story this week is a mystery titled “Nate the Great: San Francisco Detective.” Our reading focus skill will be on “reading ahead.” We will also spend time learning how to use a dictionary to help us with spelling, pronunciation, and other aspects of reading and writing. In science, we will perform “milky explosions” and continue learning the scientific method. Mapping and landforms will be our main focus in social studies, and we will begin making landform models out of clay! In the computer lab, we will continue learning about some features of Word that save us time and can make our future reports look polished.
EARN time!!! Please remember to return for Progress Report, and homework and Homework Log on the due dates so you can participate in EARN this Friday! Egypt is calling you! Don’t miss out on the fun and learning!!!
