I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know how excited I am about starting this school year with your children. I feel that it is important for you to know who I am and where I come from. As I was able to discuss with some of you at “Meet the Teacher” night, I am originally from New Jersey and I have lived in Arizona for the past 12 years. After graduating from ASU with a Bachelors’ Degree in Justice Studies, I secured a position in a law firm with the intentions of going to law school. After two years at the firm and many volunteer hours at an inner city school the firm was associated with, I realized that my true calling was not to be in front of a judge, but to be in front of children. I have always had a connection and understanding of children, so I pursued a career in teaching. While working full-time, I enrolled in a full-time night program through ASU, and finished my education by student teaching at Cerritos in kindergarten in the fall of 2004. Graduating in the fall, I secured a position at Cerritos in third grade. After a great year in third grade, I went straight back to where I started, kindergarten. I had the opportunity to teach first grade for 2 years, and now I am in fourth grade! I feel like I am home! In my spare time I enjoy traveling, watching baseball, reading, working out, and spending time with my family, Isabella (3), Ethan (1), and my husband Steven. I believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding occupations, and I feel lucky to interact with the great minds of our future day in and day out. I believe that students strive in educational situations where they feel safe and comfortable sharing their ideas and dreams, and I am confident that I can provide that for your child. Not only are your children learning from me this year, I will be learning from them. Each child has a special gift they possess and I am looking forward to finding what your child is bringing to our classroom. Fourth grade is an age where we as teachers are fortunate to see students shift from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." This is a year of major responsibilities and an chance for your kids to really understand their gifts. I am so happy to have this opportunity to be part of your child’s fourth grade year. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom and working with you to meet your child’s needs.
