  Introduction

You are going to become a member of the staff of a newspaper; but not just any newspaper—a newspaper during the Colonial/Revolutionary period of American History!

·        What might be an important news event in a paper in 1773?

·        What “human interest” stories might you read about in 1770?

·        What type of products might be advertised in 1775?

·        What special events might be highlighted in 1776?

·        Who might be an interesting person to interview in 1775?

After reading an historical fiction book of your choosing from the Colonial/Revolutionary War period, you will work collaboratively with 3 or 4 of your classmates to produce a newspaper reflecting life during that period of our history. Your teacher will assign groups, and each member of the group will assume the role of either editor, reporter(s), or advertising manager.  All of the information in the newspaper must be historically accurate. You will know what is appropriate for the time period from reading the historical fiction book and from research using materials listed in the “Resources” section of this WebQuest. Now, before you can enter the world of journalism, you must read an historical fiction book that is set in the Colonial/Revolutionary War period. If you need suggestions for what to read, visit a library or checkout the suggested books in the “Resources” section of this WebQuest. Have fun!
