Community participating in Kyrene Citizens' Budget Committee

Posted March 2017

Dear Kyrene Community,

One of the strongest assets we have in Kyrene is the generous support we receive from our community. In the short time I have been your Superintendent, I have been so impressed by how willing our parents, business and community partners are to step up when needed to support our mission of providing an excellent education to all students in Kyrene.

We need you once again. You are probably all very well aware of the ongoing struggle school districts face in declining funding for public education. In Kyrene, we have been very fortunate to have had the support of voters and property owners for our requests for bonds and overrides, and without those dollars, we could not maintain our standing as one of the top performing school districts in Arizona.

The current voter-approved overrides for Maintenance and Operations (M&O) and for Capital funding will soon be expiring. In addition, we will need to request a bond to finance several projects that are critical to the long-term future of Kyrene.

So I am asking for volunteers to serve on the Kyrene Citizens’ Budget Committee. We are looking for members of the Kyrene community, including parents, businesses and community partners and property owners.

Meeting dates and times are listed below. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Kyrene Citizens’ Budget Committee, please RSVP. We are asking for a commitment to attend each of the four meetings to ensure continuity of the discussion.

The Committee will be asked to review the District budget and to make a recommendation to the Governing Board on requesting voter approval of a bond and on continuation of the existing M&O and Capital overrides.

If you have any questions regarding the Citizens’ Budget Committee, please contact Rosalie Hirano at 480-541-1528.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jan Vesely
Superintendent
