Posted December 2016, revised January 2017
The Kyrene Governing Board has approved a 60-day review of English Language Arts educational resources for grades K through 8. The public review of grades 6 through 8 will run from December 7, 2016 to March 14, 2017 and the review of grades K through 5 will run from January 11, 2017 to March 21, 2017. The public sessions will allow teachers and the community to review all materials under consideration for adoption for the 2017-18 school year and beyond.
The materials under review for grades 6 – 8 are “Harcourt Collections” and “Pearson myPerspectives.” The materials under review for K – 5 are Amplify’s “Core Knowledge Language Arts,” Benchmark Education’s “Benchmark Advance” and McGraw-Hill’s “Wonders.”
Hard copies of the materials will be on display at the District Office, located at 8700 South Kyrene Road, Tempe, AZ 85284. A schedule will be released soon regarding materials available for review at school sites.
Monday – Friday materials can be reviewed at the District Office between 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with no appointment necessary. Please plan to spend approximately 30-60 minutes to review materials and provide comments.
After 60 days, all staff and community comments will be compiled and reviewed by the resource review committee. The resource review committee is comprised of teachers from each of the 25 Kyrene schools, representing all K-8 grade levels.  The committee will make a recommendation to the Kyrene Governing Board in the spring regarding resource adoption.
