About Ms. Shaw
Hello Waggoner families! My name is Katie
Shaw, and I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful Waggoner staff.
I have previously worked in second grade with Jan Linssen, and I am
excited to begin yet another wonderful year in third grade!
After my college years at Northern Arizona
University, I knew that I wanted to fully dedicate myself to helping
others in the community. I was selected as an AmeriCorps volunteer (a
government funded program similar to the national Peace Corps) and I was
sent off to Washington, D.C. in order to travel and serve the east coast
communities. While working in AmeriCorps, my time was spent
working first hand with illiterate and abused/neglected children. I
came to the realization that my time spent with youth at risk was most
valuable as many of the children did not have a role model or teacher to
look up to for direction.
I received my Masters in Elementary
Education from Northern Arizona University. It is a personal goal of
mine to return to school and earn my doctorate. Education has always
played such an important role in my life, and I would like it to become
just as important in the lives of students as well. Thank you all for
your continued support and making Waggoner the amazing community that it
is. I look forward to another outstanding year!
Our Class We have a wonderful mix of 24 third
graders in our class. Every student has their own unique personality
and array of talents. I love witnessing their creative writing and
artistic abilities! I have enjoyed getting to know each and every
one of them and I look forward to watching them grow this year! |

Homework We will have homework packets that are sent home at the beginning of each week with the students. Each part of the packet is designated to be completed in sections for each night of the week. Homework will mainly focus on spelling, language arts and math. All homework is a review of the lessons learned in class. Homework is expected to be completed and turned in on Fridays.
