Mission Statement

The Kyrene de la Sierra 3 R's:

RESPECT for self and others
RESPECT for quality
RESPECT for learning

Mission Statement

The mission of the Kyrene de la Sierra Community is to foster and facilitate a learning environment where every child is respected and valued, where quality and excellence is pursued, and learning is viewed as a life long journey.
Belief Statements
*We believe in the worth, diversity and value of each individual.
The Sierra staff celebrates the cultural uniqueness of our community by learning about the similarities and differences in our country and around the world.  Opportunities for students, staff and parents to express differing points-of-view are welcomed and valued.  We listen to people, share ideas, work together and seek input from all participants when making decisions.

*We believe that each individual should find value in accomplishment and develop pride in quality performance.
Students and staff are encouraged to take pride and do their best in achieving daily accomplishments. Goal setting for students and staff is commonplace.  Intrinsic gratification for accomplishments is sought and used to motivate students to reach successively higher challenges.  This philosophy is evidenced daily at our school where practices and activities are designed to reflect this thinking.

*We believe in the develpment of the inner self and that each individual should learn to accept responsibility for personal attitudes and behaviors.
We believe in encouraging personal growth by providing opportunities to participate in a variety of activities that promote responsible lifeskills.  Lifeskills emphasized include integrity, friendship, common sense, cooperation, patience and perseverance.  Students have the opportunity to participate in the D.A.R.E. Program, Alternative Recess Program, several charitable opportunities throughout the year, choir, peer coaching, student council and class meetings.  These organized class meetings promote student leadership in addition to acceptance and confidence in students' ability to give and receive compliments and solve problems.

*We believe that the learning environment should provide for the continuous progress of each individual.
The unique needs of each student's continuous growth are addressed by Sierra staff by helping students through self-assessment, goal setting, and recognition of achievement.

*We believe in a calm, reassuring and interdependent learning environment.
Encouraging and teaching reciprocal respect creates an environment conducive to interdependent learning.  Students know that adults and peers alike support them and want them to succeed.  Students take risks and accept challenges as part of their learning processes in a safe, calm and encouraging environment.

*We believe that parents should share responsibility for making the school experience a success for their children.
Parents encourage learning at home, volunteer in classrooms and attend school activities.  Parents also assist in the teaching of responsible, self-disciplined behavior.  Communication among all partners flows freely and frequently.

*We believe that family and community should feel comfortable in the school environment and be an integral part of the school experience.
Family and community are an integral part of the Sierra experience.  This integration is achieved by many different means:  an active PTO, a volunteer-based Art Masterpiece Program, and classroom volunteer opportunities for Sierra families.  The various community organizations using Sierra facilities are encouraged to provide athletic and extracurricular opportunities and activities.

*We  believe that a continuous process of interaction will allow our vision of Kyrene de la Sierra to be maintained and realized.

This continual interaction takes many forms.  For example, our biannual parent survey allows the parental voice to be heard.  In addition, monthly newsletters are distributed to each student discussing academic and extracurricular activities at Sierra.  We pride ourselves on our open environment where each voice is valued and participation is encouraged and ongoing.  We like to think of Sierra families as our partners in our continued success.
