Kyrene Monte Vista's
Vision Statement

To ensure continued excellence, Kyrene Monte Vista School must have a clear sense of the goals it is trying to accomplish, the qualities of the school it seeks to become, and the work that the various stakeholders in the school must do in order to make the ideas into reality.

The following vision statement is intended to provide standards Kyrene Monte Vista should strive to achieve and maintain.

I. Curriculum and Instruction

An excellent school provides students a core curriculum of math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and health, complemented with music, art, physical education, and various co-curricular activities. This balanced program stimulates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and instills a love for learning. It enables students to become valuable, productive and effective citizens.

In such a school, the curriculum:

A. Is guided by specific, clearly stated, challenging goals and objectives for each grade level based upon Kyrene and Arizona academic standars
B. Stimulates active engagement on the part of the students
C. Recognizes and provides for individual differences
and interests.
D. Provides opportunities to learn and recognizes a variety of learning styles
E. Allows students to learn from meaningful instruction
F. Monitors each student's academic progress and provides support for those requiring additional assistance
G. Provides a process of analysis, goal setting, and implementation that reflects the district's support of innovation and commitment to continuous improvement

II. School Climate

An excellent school ensures that it has an orderly and safe, yet inviting climate that is conducive to learning and protects instructional time.

In such a school, the climate:

A. Provides a positive environment where all students can celebrate strengths and differences
B. Provides a place where ideas can be shared freely and questions asked safely
C. Has stress reduced so that learning can be optimized
D. Has school rules that are based on a few fundamental principles that provide clear guidelines for student behavior and uniformly enforced
E. Has a positive discipline approach that incorporates natural and logical consequences and respects and maintains students' dignity
F. Provides for a safe, clean and healthy facility
G. Provides for a state-of-the-art facility with an eye to the future
III. Staff/Personnel

An excellent school is staffed with colleagues who are supportive, respectful, collaborative, and committed to one another and to student success.

In such a school, the staff:

A. Respects diversity in thought, teaching styles, and cultural heritage
B. Is committed to resolving conflict in a positive manner
C. Collaborates consistently in areas of curriculum, planning, and integration, student behavior, and the use of resources
D. Is open-minded, flexible, and willing to implement new ideas and processes
E. Believes all children can learn and holds high expectations for student success
F. Participates in ongoing professional development
G. Demonstrates support of the school's mission, vision and values
H. Consistently exceeds district quality standards

IV. Students

In assessing an excellent school, the effectiveness of a school is assessed on the basis of the conduct, character, and achievement of its students.

In such a school, students:

A. Show a willingness to learn, share, and achieve
B. Cooperate and work collaboratively with students of all races, religions, and ethnic origins
C. Are kind and respectful to each other and to staff members
D. Have a positive attitude
E. Are responsible for their actions, decisions, and learning
F. Show an openness to new experiences and are flexible
G. Learn at different rates and in different styles
H. Celebrate their strengths and recognize their weaknesses
I. Contribute to a positive, safe, and orderly school atmosphere
J. Demonstrate the Lifeskills on a daily basis and do their personal best
K. Achieve to their highest potential

V. Community Partnerships

An excellent school requires ownership of the school by the community. It is committed to addressing the needs of the community.

In such a school, community partnerships:

A. Provide clubs and before / after school activities for students
B. Access the facility and school's resources for community events, organizations, and groups
C. Actively involve students in community service and projects
D. Invite artists, writers, and business leaders to share their expertise so that students have real life experiences in the arts and business world
E. Create a link between individual classrooms and businesses
F. Participate in the life of the school by attending school events, volunteering, and assisting
G. Encourage community involvement in creating and sharing common goals and responsibilities in education
H. Demonstrate support of the school's mission, vision and values
I. Provide resources that enable the school to offer exemplary academic programs and extra-curricular activities
