Listed below are the Library Performance Objectives for each grade level.

 

In Kindergarten, students will: 

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        use a library space-holder to locate and re-shelve books.

·        locate picture books with appropriate content for their age/ability.

·        demonstrate check out procedures.

·        identify parts of a book: cover, spine, spine labels, and title page.

·        be introduced to a variety of fiction and non-fiction books and authors.

·        identify fiction and nonfiction books.

·        make predictions while hearing stories, and summarize stories afterwards.

 

In Grade One, students will:

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        use a library space-holder to locate and re-shelve books.

·        explore all resources in the library including: magazines, easy fiction books, easy chapter books, reference books, and nonfiction books.

·        select books with appropriate content for their age/ability.

·        identify parts of a book: cover, spine, spine labels, and title page.

·        demonstrate knowledge of alphabetical order in order to locate books by the author’s last name.

·        recognize Newberry and Caldecott Award books.

·        identify fiction and nonfiction books.

·        make predictions while hearing stories, and summarize stories afterwards.

 

In Grade Two, students will:

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        use a library space-holders to locate and re-shelve books.

·        explore all resources in the library to include: magazines, easy fiction books, easy chapter books, reference books, and nonfiction books.

·        identify parts of a book: cover, spine, spine labels, title page, table of contents, and index.

·        locate fiction books using Destiny, our library look-up system.

·        become proficient users of an online encyclopedia (Encarta Kids).

·        complete a research project using both non-fiction books and an online encyclopedia for resources.

 

In Grade Three, students will:

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        identify parts of a book: cover, spine, spine labels, title page, table of contents, index, glossary, captions. 

·        locate fiction and non-fictions books using Destiny, the library catalog system.

·        become familiar with the Dewey decimal system to locate books.

·        locate information using the following reference books: encyclopedia, almanac, dictionary, and atlas.

·        complete a research project using non-fiction books and an online encyclopedia for resources.

·        create a bibliography citing both a non-fiction source and an online encyclopedia source.

 

In Grade Four, students will:

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        locate fiction and non-fictions books using Destiny, the library catalog system.  

·        locate information using the following reference books: encyclopedia, almanac, dictionary, atlas, online encyclopedia, website.

·        complete a research project using non-fiction books, an online encyclopedia, and pre-selected websites for resources.

·        create a bibliography citing both a non-fiction source and an online encyclopedia source.

·        locate and identify books of specific genre to support the Kyrene Language Arts curriculum.

 

In Grade Five, students will:

·        demonstrate responsible library behavior.

·        demonstrate responsible book care.

·        locate fiction and non-fictions books using Destiny, the library catalog system.

·        use the Dewey decimal system to locate books.

·        demonstrate research organizational skills.

·        locate information in an encyclopedia, nonfiction book, almanac, and a web page.

·        complete a research project using non-fiction books, an online encyclopedia, and pre-selected websites for resources.

·        write a bibliographic entry for all resources used.

·        locate and identify books of specific genre to support the Kyrene Language Arts curriculum.
