Mathematics is more than a list of procedures and skills. Math is a part of the everyday world we live in and it impacts our real lives. Math teaches students to problem solve and think critically. All KMS students are expected to complete the assigned Math Project Challenge.
The project is due during the first week of school and will count as the first math grade of the year. The students' teachers will tell the students which day they are to bring their project to class. As a way for students to become acquainted with one another, they will share their math projects in class.
The names of the projects, by grade level, and an approximate time it will take to complete each project are listed below. Please understand these are only estimates.
6th Grade Project (Two Days in Life) - 5 to 10 hours
7th Grade Project (Junk Mail) - 5 to 10 hours
8th Grade Project (Paper Pool) - 6 to 12 hours
A math booklet should be enclosed with the Summer Program packet that was brought home by your child. This booklet explains the math project and contains all the necessary information that will be needed for your child to complete it successfully.
