Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of NIMH Discussion Questions
Chapters 15-21

If Justin had not found the toy tinker, than how do you think it would affect the story?

Since Justin was smart enough to look at the label that said, “To open pull forward and push sideways,” the rats were able to escape from NIMH. What do you think would have happened if he hadn’t recognized the label?

How would you feel if you were in the rats and mice position at the Boniface Estate when they were forced to steal their food?  

How would you feel if you were insulted in all of the rat books that you read? Would you choose to do what Nicodemus did, (proved the books wrong) or what Jenner did, (left and stole more electricity)?

What would you do if your best friend turned on you like Jenner did to Nicodemus? Would you go with him/her or you do what Nicodemus did?  

Do you think Justin was fearful about escaping from his cage and trying to find a way to escape NIMH? If you were Justin, would you be fearful? Explain.  

Do you think the rats had any doubts about Justin finding a way to escape?

If you were Jenner would you have run away right after hearing that the rest of the group was going to destroy the tools that made their lives easy? Explain

Why would the story be different if Jonathan Frisby was still living? Explain .


If the story were to continue do you think Mrs. Frisby would have found the rats in Thorn Valley? Explain.

 

How do you think Mrs. Frisby felt when she heard that Jonathan had a connection with the rats of NIMH? Explain.

 

Why do you think the rats chose to escape when they knew that the humans were smarter than them, and would find them?

Setting:  Looking from Mrs. Frisby’s perspective, what do you think she would have imagined the main hall to look like?


Characters:  Despite Nicodemus’s talking that he thought Jenner was a good man, do you think inside Nicodemus really despises Jenner because of his actions?


Plot: If Mrs. Frisby didn’t meet Jeremy, how would it affect the story?
