 Part 1-

1.    Draw Gawain’s idea of and oviform.

2.    Compare the Prime Minister and King Basil. How are they alike and how are they different.

3.    Imagine you are King Basil. What were you thinking during the trial? Explain your thoughts.

4.     Pretend you are Gawain’s lawyer. How would you defend Gawain and prove he is innocent. Also include what you would tell the king and jury.

5.    If you were Gawain, would you want a lawyer? Why?

6.    Do you agree that flying away from the trial was the right thing for Gawain to do? Why do you say so?

  

Part 2-

7.    Draw and color a picture of Derek’s room when the red rubies, golden ducats, ornaments, and the Kalikak Diamond.

8.    Compare Derrick and Gawain. How are they different and how are they alike.

9.    Pretend you are Derek, and you just heard about the trial. Explain your feelings.

10. Would you keep stealing like Derek did to clear Gawain’s name? Explain why or why not.

11. What is your opinion of the town’s reaction after the trial? Were they fair? Explain your thoughts.

12.      Compare the towns’ reaction to Gawain before and after the trial.

13.      If you were Gawain, would you have the courage to fly further than Lake Superb? Explain.

14.      Explain why Derek took it upon himself to find Gawain.

15.      If you were Derek and you confessed to the king, what would you tell him and why?

16.      If you were allowed to delete a part in the book, what part would you delete?

17.      What kind of category do you suppose this book is in: tragedy, humor, suspense, or mystery? Which one and why?
