F is for Friction

The main conflict of this book was that Lars's aunt died and hid a new will that said that Lars's family gets the house. Mr. Owens who read the first will before said that Aunt Cass left the house to him for a museum. That was true, but Aunt Cass made another one, which she hid that lets Lars's family owns the house. The only problem with that was they could not find in anywhere inside the house. If they could not find it soon Mr. Owens will bring them to court and show the judge the first will and he will get the house.

I is for Ideal

The theme or "iedial" of this book is that where there's a will, there's a way. This is the theme because Lars wants to find Aunt Cass's will and in the end he does. Geordie's stories tell how he wants his family to live together and be happy. They both get their wish fulfilled by hard work and it shows where there's a will, there's a way.

C is for Characters

Lars is boy around 11 and 12 years old. He wasn't interested in social studies until Geordie started telling him old American Revolution stories that his brother was in. His family consists of him, his father, and his mother. Pat is a girl about Lars's age and was really interested in social studies the minute she started doing social studies. Patience is her real name, but she doesn't want people to know because they'll make fun of it. She is a horse rider and caretaker at her house and she rides on the horse all around. Geordie is a ghost (shade) who helped Lars find the missing will. He will be deeply irritated if you call him a ghost.

T is for Title

The title in The Riddle of Penncroft Farm is a title that tells you that there is a riddle in this book. And, clearly, the riddle is of the farm. I think that this is one of those titles that could tell a short story. I think this because of the word "riddle" in the title. I think that this word tells a lot. One of the meanings that you could say it says is that there will be a riddle in the book, the more obvious one. If you were to look deeper down in the title you would realize that the story probably has one big riddle and several smaller riddles leading to the bigger riddle. The whole title, I think, says that there will be some, or several, riddles in the book, and that the riddles will be of the farm, but I also think that the book will have some difficulties in it, because of the riddles. I think that the main character will be the one who goes through these difficulties.

I is for Imitate

The author used a lot of information about the American Revolution to entertain us with stories. The stories are exciting battles or planning in the American Revolution, so you would want to continue on. She also talks a lot about how people do things at Penncroft farm like at school or visiting famous monuments. She also used humor a little bit because like having Eddie Owens keep on babbling about his ancestors that appeared and did famous things in the American Revolution.

O is for Organization

O. The author's organization of the book was she used a lot of flashbacks to tell us about, Geordie's brother, Will. Then she went back to going by Lars's point of view and what he thought at every second, what he said, and what he hears. She keeps on switching back and forth from Lars's then back to the flashback.

N is for New or Novel

The thing that was different in The Riddle of Penncroft Farm was that there was a ghost, who preferred to be called a shade, in the story. The shade was like no other character that I know of. He told many stories from the Revolutionary War. These stories were from his point of view, so it made it even more realistic. The shade also was the key character in the book. He was the one who helped the main character figure out a puzzle by telling him these stories. The stories visited many places where Washington was commanding his men. The shade got to see history be created, and the main character, Lars, got to hear history being made. This was a great point in the story, for you learned a lot about the Revolutionary War, but most of all, you were able to figure out the puzzle too.
