F
is for Friction
I
think the friction of this story is "A
girl faces the challenges of growing up and
adjusting to changes" because in this story
a girl, Lily, has to adjust and accept many
difficult changes in her life. For example,
Lily's father, Jerry, is drafted into the army
to fight in World War II and doesn't come back
for more than three months. Lily now has to
stay with Gram, her grandmother, since her mother
died long ago. There, Lily faces the challenges
of being away from her father and dead mother.
I
is for Ideal
I think that what the ideal,
or message, was, through friendship great things
can be accomplished and overcome. I think that
this ideal applies to Lily's Crossing because
Lily had many difficulties but overcame them
with the help of her trustworthy friend, Albert.
C
is for Characters
I think each character in this
book each represented something everybody has
to go through sooner or later. For example,
Albert represented losing somebody that is very
close to you, since his parents and possibly
grandma died in the midst of the war. Gram also
represents the same thing because Poppy, her
son, had to go to the war. He came back, but
the time he was away at war could not be replaced
with time Gram and Poppy spent together.
T
is for Title
The
title, Lily's Crossing, signals that Lily has
to "cross" something mentally. It
suggests that Lily takes a step forward to doing
something right or growing up.
I
is for Imitate
I
would imitate several things in this book. The
first thing I would imitate is the short paragraphs
and language. The author makes an ordinary thing
serious and touching, instead of satirizing
the book with the language and her style of
writing. Another thing I would imitate is the
author's word choice. The author selects the
perfect words that create a clear picture inside
one's head.
O
is for Organization
I
think that the story was organized sequentially
so that it was all told in complete order. I
think that doing it that way, for this book,
was a fine way for doing it.
N
is for New or Novel
This book was "novel"
in many ways. The first way was that this book
was about friendship from a girl's point of
view seriously instead of lighthearted. I found
that to be very interesting since I have never
read about something serious in another child's
point of view. Furthermore, this book was a
novel was about a girl living at the time of
World War II instead of more recently. Most
books about serious friendship takes place recently.
