Noun Level 2: Silver Level Explanation

Collective Nouns

Have you ever heard of a batch of cookies? Or a herd of cows? Those are all collective nouns. Collective nouns represent a group of things. In "a batch of cookies", BATCH is the collective noun because it is the word to represent a group of cookies. Be careful! Don't get confused. You use them every day, but you probably don't know it.  Some more examples are:

  • a team of players
  • a flock of geese
  • a boo of surprises
  • a bouquet of flowers

* Remember that the word "air" is not an abstract noun. Even though it is invisible, it is made of molecules and isn't a feeling or idea.
