| The Grand Canyon (also known as the great hole in the ground) is brought to you by the Colorado River. Itís one of the grate wonders of the world. Itís 1 mile deep, from 4-18 miles wide, and 217 miles long! Exposed to more than 8 million years of white water rafting, and the repeated chiseling sequence of the Colorado River has caused it to have a steep rim. (If you fall the tour guides call it the fifteen second tour because you see the canyon for only fifteen seconds)! The park was enlarged in 1975 to include other areas. Rafting and boating along the canyon's river bottom is popular. |

The Colorado River the great river of the Southwestern United States. It is 1,450 miles long, rising in the Rocky moutons of North Colorado, and flowing generally South West through Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Between Nevada and Arizona, and Arizona and California, then into Mexico, emptying into the Gulf of California, Mexico. The river flows through about 1,000 miles of canyons, including Arizona's Grand Canyon. Many national parks, monuments, and recreational areas lie along its banks. And its out in the middle of nowhere so there's no sings! |
