The Mysterious Journey of
Friar Marcos de Niza: Marcos De Niza inspired Coranado to go on his expedition. Marcos De Niza was a Friar who was sent to find rich cities that were supposedly in the north. In the summer of 1539 he returned and wrote a report saying he had found what he was looking for. The place was called Cibolo. Marcos De Niza never entered the city, because his friend went inside and never came out. But, Marcos De Niza never mentioned any gold in the report, but the Mexicans just assumed that it was a rich city. Marcos lead Coronado's troupes back in 1540, but since Coranado excepted gold, Marcos was assumed as a liar. The big mystery about Marcos is whether he told the truth. |
