General Board
Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order at 4:03 p.m. In attendance: Kathy Miller, Tammy Marcelja, Melody Welsh, Michelle McCoy, Traci Phillips, Jacque Moorefield, Michelle Copic, Hema Werner and James Martin.
Current Board members and staff were introduced. Parent guests were introduced. Newly nominated Board Members for President and Secretary were introduced. Vice President, Melody Welsh, nominated Michelle McCoy for PTC President and Traci Phillips for PTC Secretary. Tammy Marcelja seconded the nomination.
Nominees were elected: Michelle Mccoy replaces Scott Thomas as President, and Traci Phillips replaces Stephanie Smith as Secretary.
May Minutes will be approved at September Meeting.
Principal’s Report-
Kathy calculated that CMS has 1,114 current students. CMS will begin an Anti-Bullying campaign in which material will be presented to students in their Academic Lab classes. The material will be presented by Adama Sallu. A new Project Alert campaign will also begin this year with funds provided by PTC. Project Alert is an anti-drinking, anti-drug campaign for students. 6th grade will have their Student Council elections this month and the Student Council will begin designing a new CMS t-shirt. There will be several new clubs beginning this year, one of which is the Lego Robotics Club. Year book club, and athletic team tryouts will begin this month. Progress reports will go home September 5, 2008.
Tammy provided financial reports for the end of the 2007-2008 school year. Final monies from 2008 school year Family Dinner Nights were collected from Sweet Tomatoes and Rubios. Tammy provided an end of the year bank balance of $3772.01. New fiscal year for 2008-09 reporting began July 1, 2008. Additional revenue collected in July and August provides for a current bank balance (as of August 18, 2008) of $4437.49. Due to our current bank deducting bank charges, it was discussed looking into another bank for a better account.
Tammy also provided a quick update from the Parent Superintendent Council meeting. Some of that agenda included the district’s emergency/crisis team and information of the district’s new Phone Dialer system. Traci Phillips will join Kathy and Tammy as CMS PSC representatives.
Tammy also mentioned that any money Officers spend on PTC, needs to be emailed to her. She needs to keep track of the Officer’s spending for tax reporting. Taxes are due 11/15/2008.
Committee chairs are in place. An update was provided and Yayi Venezia may Co-Chair the Book Fair with Hema. Melody will send an email to Yayi for confirmation.
Kyrene Parent Network meeting will be Tuesday, September 9th.
August Family Dessert Night is August 27th from 3-10 pm at Golden Spoon. Golden Spoon will contribute 25% of all proceeds during that time period back to CMS. No flyer necessary!
Butter Braids sale dates will be October 14-27. Butter Braid Chair, Joanna Parks, will be notified. Delivery of ButterBraids will be on Thursday, November 6th. Entertainment Book fundraiser ends September 5th.
Hema reports that the Sabercat Directory will be available after Fall Break. Directories will cost $2 to cover the cost of printing. Deadline for providing information for the directory is September 26th. Hema will contact the art department for a possible art contest to design the new directory cover.
May, 2008 By-Laws were accepted. Lori DeMarr
discussed Simplified Escrip, which is an online gift
card company. Tammy offered to inquire
about promotional material and review for further discussion. Reminder for
grocery cards: Cards must be re-enrolled
each year!
Proposed Drug Program funding to be discussed at next meeting.

Michelle discussed a new fundraiser/family event involving the Harlem Wizards (performing basketball team). Kathy & James will discuss and see if there is interest (PE DEPT.)
GUEST SPEAKERS-
Representatives from TUHSD shared information on Capital Overrides and Bonds in the November election. Question and Answer session followed their presentation.
