Science Club (Read 11/19-21)

Next Monday, November 24th, will be the next Science Club meeting.  Please remember to sign up for the club meeting with your science teacher.  We need a head count for the morning and afternoon meetings so we know how many supplies to purchase for you.  Also, if you do not have a permission slip on file with Mrs. Dale, please get one from your science teacher and bring it to Monday’s club meeting.  We meet in the morning at 7:51 or in the afternoon at 4.  Do NOT come to both meetings!

 

POP TOPS (Read 11/12-19)

Come to the next pop-top counting day on Thursday, Nov. 20th from 4-5:30 in Room C6. Mrs. Anderson needs all grade levels to join her in this event to add to the 51,000 ones already counted. Many more have been donated, and remember each one represents a person lost in the Holocaust and promotes acceptance and diversity here on the campus of Akimel A-al. Remember to bring a snack and have a ride home at 5:30 sharp!

 

Also, put your thinking caps on - it is time to start submitting your designs for a permanent memorial for the pop-tops, which will be displayed in the courtyard. We want to have a winner before winter break. Give your designs to your social studies teacher and remember, we need to be able to see how many there are in the container. The winner will receive a $25.00 bankcard.

 

BOOK FAIR (read 11/19)

How can AMS students get two free tickets to the Twilight movie to be released this weekend?  Answer – But a book at the AMS Fall Book Fair. For every book purchased, you are entered into a drawing to win two free tickets to see Twilight.

 

8th GRADE BASKETBALL (Read 11/19-20)
The 8th grade basketball team is in need of a manager to keep the scorebook at all games.  Any boy or girl interested in this opportunity please see Mr. Reed in Room B8 to get more details.

 

LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW

Come one come all! The Akimel A-al Drama Club is proud to present The Legend of Sleepy Hollow  this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm. This show is general admission with a suggested donation of $2 at the door. We hope to see you there!

CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Neil Talanki (ta-lon-kee) for bringing home a first place trophy for the open individual and team divisions at the chess tournament held at Akimel A-al this past weekend!

BOOK FAIR

How can AMS students help teach students in Africa to read? Answer – Buy a book at the AMS Fall Book Fair. For every book purchased, the media center will donate a book of equal value to the Books for Africa Library Project.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL MEETING
There will be a Student Council representative meeting today after school in Ms. Combs’ classroom. Please plan to attend. You need to arrange to have a ride home at 4:45 pm.

Breast Cancer Three Day Walk

The Breast Cancer Three Day Walk takes place this weekend and participants will be walking throughout the Akimel A-al Middle School neighborhood!  Walkers are scheduled to come by AMS and Estrella Elementary School sometime tomorrow.  Our best wishes go with all the participants!

YEARBOOK RETAKE PHOTOS

Attention 8th grade students: If you had retakes taken for your yearbook pictures and you would like to let the yearbook staff know which picture you would like for the yearbook, this is the week to do it. Shelby Shirley and Logan Fetters are the contact people. Find them on 8B, at lunch, or walking in between classes and let them know which retake you desire. If we do not hear from you by Friday, November 7, we will decide which picture to use.

 

SPIRIT STICK
Attention all Akimel A-al students! Currently, the sixth graders have the spirit stick! Do we want those sixth graders to have it? NO! And it looks like they won’t have it for long…NJHS is holding a canned food and clothing drive. Currently 8C is winning the contest! Remember- bring cans or clothes to donate to a designated teacher in your pod… The clothes go to the Kyrene Kids Corner and the food goes to St. Mary’s Food Bank. The winning pod gets an otter pop party and the winning grade gets the SPIRIT STICK! Ready… set…donate!

 

MIX IT UP DAY

Thursday, November 13th is National Mix it up day. Mix it up day is a National campaign that supports students who want to cross social boundaries. We are trying to eliminate cliques at Akimel Middle School. All you have to do is sit at a new table during your lunch period. Participants may receive a clarker. So make sure you get out there and meet new people rattlers!

 

SIXTH GRADE LUNCH IN MPR TODAY

11:14, everyone must go to the multipurpose room.

6th GRADE ASSEMBLY

We’d like to welcome members of the American Legion on campus today.  They will be presenting the Evolution of the Flag to our sixth grade students.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Ryan Dykstra for being the State of Arizona’s Cross Country champion.  He broke the meet record at the state tournament Saturday.  Congratulations to all of our other cross country athletes who participated.
