PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
We are pleased with your interest in the Kyrene Preschool Program. In Kyrene, we believe that every child is a unique complex learner; a social being who learns through the development of relationships with peers and adults; entitled to learning environments that support optimal development of the whole child; entitled to opportunities to learn through active exploration; and learns through child-initiated, child directed, teacher supported play. Therefore, our preschool offers an awesome first learning experience to children both typically developing and with developmental delays, speech and language delays and vision and hearing impairments. The Kyrene Preschool Program offers a developmental curriculum aligned with the Arizona Early Learning Standards with an emphasis on language development and acquisition. For this reason, we look for age appropriate English language skills in our typical children. Our goals are to enhance communication skills so that all our children learn to interact with others in appropriate ways; encourage creativity and a love of learning; and improve motor and self-help skills. We encourage our children as they learn to make choices. We are advocates for children's play time and attempt to capitalize on a child's natural inclination to learn through play. Our program follows the Kyrene School District calendar year. Each class is instructed by a certified teacher and trained paraprofessionals, with a speech and language specialist providing service and support. Classes include approximately 14 students, some with special needs and some who are typically developing, tuition paying students. All of our classes are 2 ½ hours long, either an A.M.(8:00-10:30am) or a P.M.(11:30-2:00pm) session. We offer a 4-day a week program that meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Tuition for our 4-day a week program is $200.00 per month. We also offer a 3-day a week program on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for $150.00 per month. A full month’s tuition is collected July through April, regardless of school breaks. As spots become available we will call parents according to the date application was received. If you have any further questions please call Tammy Anderson, Preschool Secretary at 480-783-4156. Special Need Children: If you have any concerns on your child's development or feel your child needs to be tested for speech and language delays, please call us at (480)783-4156 to set up an appointment for a Special Needs Screening. These screenings are held once a month, August through May. You must be a current resident in the Kyrene School District and your child must be at least 2 yrs and 9 mos. up to 5 year olds that are not eligible for kindergarten. This screening determines if a child has a potential disability that requires further evaluation. If so, a full evaluation will be done to determine whether a child is eligible for placement in the preschool as a special needs child. An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) will be developed to meet the child's needs. Itinerant speech/language services are also provided when appropriate. If your special needs child has already had an evaluation done outside of the KSD and/or has a current IEP, please call the above number, we will take information from you and forward it to our evaluation team for a record review. These children do not normally attend the Special Needs Screening.
