2008/2009 PTO Executive Meeting

October 14, 2008

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Phase 1 is still underway. Colina is still waiting for permits to finish the water meter. Once completed, Phase 2 will begin. The fire line has been installed.

Harvest Festival

Oct. 23rd is Student & Teacher preview day. The sale begins Oct. 24-30. Open every day from 7:30-3:30, closed for lunch 11:30-2 except Wednesday. Open for evening conferences & during the Harvest Festival. There are various promotions with opportunities for teachers and students to win various prizes and books. Donations will be collected for a charity yet to be determined and will be matched by Scholastic.

Sales goal is $11,000 gross, resulting in a profit of $2750 for Colina. The profit will be shared between the PTO and the Library (for items not provided in the remodel).

                                                                   

The PTO has hired a DJ for the event. There will be games with prizes, a pumpkin walk with voting for the ‘best of’, glow sticks will be on sale for $1, Carrabbas dinners can be purchased; $5 for kids & $8 for adults.

Follow-up

- Barnes & Noble Book Fair has been approved by the Advisory Committee for the week of Dec 6-12. Cathy Askenasy will be chairing the event. 

- Front Landscaping - Lilly Correa will contact a gardener to replace the dead plants.

- Marquee Light – Fixed

- Heritage Garden – PTO has provided Cathy Wilson with $200 to proceed with the design of habitat for the grant proposal.

- Supply Drive – 3rd grade won the pizza party

- Conference Dinners – Teachers have requested the dinners to begin at 4pm so teachers with 5pm conferences can partake in the dinner.

New Business Items

 

- School Parent Badges – Kristine Romero proposed forming a committee for this function. It was approved.

- Author visiting Colina – Tricia Williams has organized Jennifer Ward to speak to our students on Nov. 18. She will be talking to younger children about reading and writing to the older children. Books will be available for purchase.

PTO Bylaws

The 1st draft of the PTO Bylaws has been completed. The Executive Board will proof it and once OK’d by them it will be sent to the parents through an all-school email. It will also be available on the Colina web site. Information about accessing and approving the bylaws will be in the Nov. newsletter. If needed there will be a parent meeting to discuss the bylaws. The bylaws will be voted on at the Nov. 3 Quarterly PTO meeting.
