The
Kyrene Alternative to Suspension Program (KASP) was
established to assist and support those Kyrene School
District Middle School students who otherwise would
receive an Off Campus Suspension for a behavioral
incident.
Parents may choose to have their child participate in
the KASP program in lieu of the Off Campus Suspension.
The KASP
Program goals include:
-
To continue students’
opportunity towards academic progress
-
To assist students in
regaining the capacity to benefit academically from
classroom instruction
-
To assist students in
gaining new skills and strategies to make positive
and successful behavioral choices
-
To provide an
environment where a consequence can be completed
without having to leave an academic environment
-
To provide an
environment where students can be taught without
disturbing the regular classroom
What We
Expect From Students
Students may not bring any materials (backpacks, etc.)
to the program, unless directly instructed to do so by
the teacher. Parents will be contacted should this be
the case.
Students will follow
school appropriate dress guidelines as stated in the
Kyrene School District Family/Student Handbook.
Students will follow school rules as stated in the
Kyrene School District Family/Student Handbook. Failure
to do so may result in removal from KASP and immediate
initiation of the original off campus suspension
consequence.
A student is expected to follow all school rules and
show effort while attending KASP. Should a student
choose not to follow school rules or to openly be
defiant while attending the program, the KASP Lead
Teacher may initiate the original off campus suspension.
Students will not be allowed to attend or participate in
extracurricular activities at their home school while
attending KASP. Examples include, but are not limited
to: athletic events, concerts, dances, socials, drama

Peters,KASP counselor, should be contacted by 9:00 am,
with the notification, including the reason for the
absence. Telephone (480)783-2431 Pueblo KASP Classroom.

the 15 days. Students who successfully complete the KASP
program will not have a record of off campus suspension
recorded in their file for the current incident.
A Placement Conference will be held at the KASP site as
soon as possible prior to the student attending. Every
effort will be made to hold the conference within one
school day.
Student will be
instructed and assessed in character education, positive
leadership skills, positive peer and group interactions,
decision-making skills, and other behavioral goals.
Students will receive counseling to assist with
developing positive social and behavioral skills, and
emotional support.
Upon the student's completion of the program an academic
