eNews for Kyrene's Native American Community                        December 17,2008

Many Thanks...

to our amazing Native American Parent Advisory Committee

who planned and provided a wonder-full experience last Saturday for students and families! Attendees enjoyed relaxing and creating holiday crafts together with full bellies from a wide assortment of food and beverages provided by the Committee.  Our community is so grateful for your efforts to plan this event, and for all those who took part in it!

10 Ways to Give

During these difficult times, many of our families, friends, neighbors and charitable organizations are in need like never before.  Please consider a gift of your time and treasure providing help to someone less fortunate.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

1.  Donate to the Kyrene Schools Community Foundation and support Kyrene students, teachers, projects and scholarships that would otherwise go unfunded.

2.  Make a tax credit donation to the Kyrene school of your choice.  Donations help fund many extracurricular activities including character education, fine arts and athletics.  The Kyrene District Office - 8700 S Kyrene Road, Tempe (NW corner Warner & Kyrene Roads) will be open on December 31, 2008 from 10 -2 for last minute donations.

3.  Support the American Indian College Fund.  The ability to secure financial aid can mean the difference between receiving a college degree and dropping out.

4.  Donate or volunteer your time to Native Connections and help their efforts of offering transitional and permanent affordable housing to low-income individuals and families.

5.  Support Native American Fatherhood and Families Association and help strengthen families through responsible fatherhood, bringing honor to both families and Native heritage.

6..  Give the gift of life - donate blood and save a life.

7.  Volunteer to help homeless kids.  Stand up against youth homelessness in Phoenix and help a child find a brighter future.

8.  Sign up to participate in the 2009 Heart Walk to help end heart disease and stoke.

9.  Attend a Kyrene Native American Parent Advisory Committee meeting or event (the next one is January 24, 2009).

10.  Volunteer in your child's school and let all children know that education matters!
