Congratulations to Zoey and
Kahara Hodges, Aprende Middle School
Zoey, 6th grade,
and Kahara, 8th grade, were the winners of the Kyrene Native American
Parent Advisory Committee's We Shall Remain Essay Contest.
We Shall Remain
is a provocative multi-media project that establishes Native history as
an essential part of American history. Five 90-minute documentaries
spanning three hundred years tell the story of pivotal moments in US
history from the Native American perspective.
After viewing the series, Zoey wrote: "...not only did it inform
about my culture, it taught me about other native tribes, and it made me
feel good that my ancestors were strong powerful warriors."
We Shall Remain had an impact upon Kahara,
and she shared: "...learning about the past of my relatives is
important to me because it shows me that I cannot lose my culture."
NAPAC was proud to choose these entries as the "winners" of their essay
contest. Zoey and Kahara were presented with a small token to
acknowledge their participation.
